Old Fashion Caramel Icing

2 1/2 cup white sugar

1 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup hot water

1 stick margarine


On medium heat, brown 1/2 cup of white sugar. Add hot water. In a saucepan, mix together 2 cups of white sugar and heavy cream. Add caramelized sugar and cook to a soft-boil stage, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. Add margarine and beat until correct spreading consistency.
