2021 Annual Meeting

October is usually the month when an overflowing crowd of Satilla EMC Members, their families and guests gather at Memorial Stadium in Waycross to take part in Satilla’s Annual Meeting. Unfortunately, the health risks and social restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic once again made convening a traditional in-person Annual Meeting unrealistic this year. That did not stop Satilla Members from making Satilla’s 84th Annual Meeting one to remember. Satilla’s second consecutive “Mail-In” Annual Meeting will go down as a huge success. Member involvement was at an all-time high as over 7,000 Satilla Members returned their registration card which gave members the opportunity to vote on cooperative business and entered them in our special prize drawing. On Wednesday, October 13th, over 300 winners were randomly selected to receive gift cards and bill credits presented by Satilla. The results of the drawing were posted on the Satilla website and Facebook page. We would like to thank all our members who participated in the 2021 Annual Meeting, and we look forward to seeing you back in Waycross in 2022!

Office Closing

Satilla REMC offices will be closed on Thursday, December 23rd and Friday, December 24th to celebrate Christmas. Our offices will again be closed on Friday, December 31, 2021 to observe New Year’s Day.

In the event of a power outage, call Satilla’s Power Control Center at (888) 738-6926. The Power Control Center is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week for your convenience.

23rd Annual Christmas Card Contest

“I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas”

Continuing the tradition of the annual Christmas Card Contest, Satilla REMC asked students in grades K-5 throughout Satilla’s service area to share with us their imaginative artwork on the theme “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas.”

Satilla received approximately 2,000 entries from elementary and primary schools within its service area. We would like to congratulate Dixie’ana Jarman as this year’s overall winner. She is the daughter of Ruben and Lauren Jarman and attends Bacon County Primary School. Dixie’ana will receive a $25 gift certificate and class party for her effort and creativity. Her teacher is Ms. Melanie Williams.

Satilla REMC Directors and Employees extend their appreciation to area teachers who aided in the coordination of this event. Although each student is truly a winner for participating, a grade-level winner was chosen from among the submissions and will receive a Wal-Mart gift certificate.

Energy Efficient Heating Habits

Nearly half of the electricity used at home goes to condition the air inside. To reduce cost, the HVAC unit needs to run less.

  • Set your thermostat to 68 degrees.
  • For homes with heat pumps, nighttime setbacks and frequent thermostat changes will increase energy costs and are not recommended. Programmable and smart thermostats designed for heat pumps allow setbacks without increasing operating costs.
  • Only set the thermostat to “emergency heat” in the event the heat pump is not working. Since emergency heat costs nearly twice as much to operate as normal operation of a heat pump, it should not be used except in the case of system failure while awaiting repairs.
  • Check and/or replace air filters every 1–2 months. Dirty or clogged air filters restrict airflow and cause your compressor to work harder, increasing costs.
  • Use the fireplace sparingly. It draws your home’s heated air up the chimney.
  • Ensure proper airflow to indoor supply and return vents, and around your outdoor unit. Do not block indoor supply and return vents with furniture or other objects. Keep the outdoor unit free of leaves, grass, shrubs, snow, or anything else that can block airflow.
